Golden Hummus

About the Recipe

This golden hummus is made with turmeric, black pepper and two more optional longevity spices. It calls for 6 ingredients. Super healthy and delicious!


  • 2 (15oz) cans of chickpeas

  • 1/2 cup tahini

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp long pepper powder (optional)

  • 6 tbsp lemon juice (plus more as needed)

  • 3 cloves of garlic

  • 2 tsp maple syrup (optional)

  • 6 tbsp cold water (plus more as needed)

  • freshly ground black cumin seeds (optional for serving)

For the roasted chickpeas

  • drizzle of olive oil

  • dash of garlic powder


Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees if making the roasted chickpea topping

Step 2

For a smoother hummus: Simmer 2 1/2 cups canned chickpeas for 15 minutes to soften. Drain and rinse. (or use soft-cooked chickpeas.)

Step 3

For the roasted chickpeas: Meanwhile, transfer the remaining 1/2 cup chickpeas for a baking dish. Toss with olive oil and garlic powder and bake at 400 degrees until crispy.

Step 4

Transfer the 2 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas to the canister of a blender with the tahini, garlic, lemon juice, turmeric, black pepper, long pepper powder (if using), and 3 tbsp cold water plus one ice cube.

Step 5

Blend until smooth, adding more cold water until the desired texture. Add maple syrup to taste to balance the spices.

Step 6

For serving, top with roasted chickpeas and freshly ground black cumin seeds.
